Bevel "Clip Overlap"

Any chance we can get "Clip Overlap" function for Bevel Tool and Bevel Modifier?

Screenshot_3.jpg

basically what it do is clip/cut any overlapping geometry inside the bevel area, or maybe somekind of boolean bevel

and possibly additional option to triangulate clipped area Screenshot_1.jpg

May be its worth to change beveling behaviour to secondary mode (main mode is to bevel single edge, Second mode bevel across the two edges): select start edge + select end edge then bevel and cut off all between them.

Any chance of this being added to the 3.3 release?

Yeah with an vertex output for handling the triangles so we can procedural weld and convert to quads

Your example looks too good, I wondering how it has to handle such example (theoretically it has to handle this as well). How script has to detect what/how to remove/merge in all this mess? Magically somehow? Have you any ideas or you just want it to work in this way and someone else have to invent how?

You mean the sharp Corner overlap area?

Not only, also how it has to handle cases when bevel mesh border not match with surrounding mesh? (almost any "not ideal"case)

Hmm not sure if it's the best way there's 2 way i can think of.

  1. The Bevel boundary are following the original loop edge, so some kind of unclamped loop slide and clip the overlapped loops.
  2. or give an error (disable the modifier and give a error info in the modifier or in console ) just like CAD bevel works
