Add the standalone view layer thing from the upper right to the actual view layer info in the outliner
Of all the things I had no clue about in the Blender UI, this one was the only thing that felt "bad" to me because of how disconnected it seemed to be from the other stuff it is actually directly connected to.
The way it works very much reminds me of Layer Comps in Photshop (using only the visibility option) and while I'm fine with layer comps being in a separate ui window from the actual layers in photoshop, it just doesn't seem right to me in Blender.

This proposal could really use a mock-up to make it more clear what you're suggesting.
* @Jason van Gumster * Trying. But the UI for this seems to be a bit crap in every other 3d program too. Do you happen to know the reason why they canged the naming to "view layer" instead of "render layer"?
* @thinsoldier * Don't focus on how other programs do it (especially if they do it poorly). Think of what's going to work best for you in Blender. As for the naming change, I couldn't say off the top of my head. Might be worth asking on devtalk.blender.org .
