This is the most straightforward way to solve the shortage of hotkey resources. I think it could be simpler. If the number of items is greater than 1 and less than or equal to 8, create a pie menu, if there are more than 8, create a list menu. (Of course, it is also good to let users choose.)
As soon as we get the ability to tear off menus I won't need 75% of the custom keyboard shortcuts I created or the quick menu.
* @thinsoldier * what do you mean by tear off menus?
* @3d illusions * In other programs like Maya you can open a menu in the ui and turn it into a mini window containing only that menu that stays on top of the main window.
* @thinsoldier * well I'll be coding this soon. Just using this right click select as a location for storing things I'm thinking of making.
* @3d illusions * If you open the Q Quick Favorites menu you can already drag that menu arond by its headline. So I assume some of the necessary building blocks for this feature area already in the code somewhere.
The tear-off menu is good, especially for software that relies heavily on the menu, but blender does not seem to need it. The pie menu is much faster than the tear-off menu. If the pie menu can be created so easily, I have no objection to the tear-off menu.
Q -- (Quick Favorites) is kinda close. I think there's also an addon for doing this (granted, it isn't automatic).
* @Josephbburg * quick favourites is a bit limited because it uses just one shortcut key to bring it up, the method I propose would effectively give you a different quick favourites menu for each shortcut key (if you have that key assigned to more than one function)
* @tibbyninja * That as well and the Quick Favorites should be a pie-menu as well
