Dropdown Menu Interaction Improvement
1. Scroll by
Mouse Wheel
How it work for now. Very disgusting user experience. User scroll to achieve item he looking for + then selection jumped back and it need additionally move cursor to item to select it.
How it should work. User scroll to achieve item he looking for + just click to select (because cursor is already on this item). Here similar suggestion ang good example from Fruity Loops.
2. Slide by
Middle Mouse
Also it should work in dropdown menus same as it work in panels, etc. as expected ( especially for new users ) - hold
Middle Mouse
button & move to slide up/down.
As always - thanks for reading. Also you can check my other suggestions .

indeed,
Bravo! :)
Cool
Having the mousewheel control the cursor would be an odd solution. Rather the mousewheel should just scroll the menu without having to scroll the selection all the way to the top or bottom first (i.e. the same way it works on the rest of the properties editor outside the dropdown).
In addition, these menus should be expanded beyond the limit of 10 items. I see no reason for this tiny limit on a list containing potentially hundreds of items when, for example, the modifiers dropdown has a length of 17. Ideally it should be whatever length that space will allow but even just doubling it would be much more convenient.
Since I see this has more upvotes, here's another suggestion from me blender.community/c/rightclickselect/x6dbbc/
All of this shamanism is solved by adding sliders and replacing existing sliders (approximately 10 pixels in size, so on the 1920x1080 monitor I was tired of trying to get on them) with normal sliders, which are now in 2.79.
Similarly, the sliders are not in various available assets, which is disgusting. Pressing the middle mouse button each time and holding, instead of poking the left button on the slider and dragging at any speed and quickly finding anything, is a pleasure.
However, this is already a problem of the concept as a whole. I like the solution of this issue in 3D coat much more; there, at the concept level, there are its panels, where shaders, models and other elements are clearly and clearly visible at once.
* @Sorda * I ask not about shamanism but about to make comfortable to work wit already existing things.
Have nothing against sliders.
About sliders and 2.79 - work in 2.79 right now and still find roll by mouse wheel faset and much handy solution if I search for something and can't type exact name.
Same as in UE 4 if Outliner contain lots of items - it's faster & easier to go up/bown by sliding while holding right button than catch slider and move it up/down.
* @forestgumpovu4 * Another thing is that it is about 2.8. No need to try to "return" me to the previous version. It seems that this thread is aimed at improving the work of the future version, and not arguing about whether it is shamanism or not.
* @Sorda * I second your idea. I think adding vertical scrollbars would be really conveniant in this case (paragraph #1).
* @ xan2622 * If they will add ability to scrol up/down by click & hold
midmouse+ move anywhere on dropdawn area - actually it will replace the need in standart " slider/scroll bar ". Instead of tiny stripe on left or right of area to manipulate list in dropdown - user have all area to manipulate. Also it would be much comfortable for " Pen " users - to point and click with pen precisely ( if drop down have only scrollbar ) is not the best option. Grab list in any part and move it up/down - should work much handy for pens. But !!!! standart " slider " have feature which is really necesary - vizualization to understand current position in list.
I beleive if dev team pay attention to this suggestion - they also read all the comments. So if devs will change current mouse wheel interaction + add ability to scroll by holding button + add " slider/scroll bar" - everyone will be happy and everyone will use it as it is convenient for him in each specific case.
It would cause problems for touchpad interactions, though.
Very good!
This makes complete sense. And great proposal! I totally agree here.
* Random fact: It is strange they "pre-highlight" in this menu but won't pre-highlight anywhere in the 3D view, so it would be inconsistent.*
