Modifiers collections

What I mean is to make modifiers collectible.

It may help with the new auto smooth modifier in Blender 4.1.

I would like to have several modifier collections like: "First", "Inbetween", "Third", "Boolean" and "Last". (or maybe a couple more of them). I would like to create them and organize in an order suitable for my model and my needing. Example: Into first collection I put Armature modifier, into last one -subdivision. In the middle I put everything I want to be earlier than subdiv, and after the armature.

Of course all new modifiers are added to an active collection by default (like middle one), preventing me reorganizing rest of them every time when I add something, and say I want 'autosmooth' or subdiv at particular place.

I actually really like this idea. When you're working in production and rely on a certain set of modifiers to exist in order across multiple pieces managing modifiers becomes super time consuming to go through each mesh and double check modifier order. For example having triangulate modifier at the end of the stack in game production or sub-d at the end for VFX. For me it was always a matter of keeping weighted normals and a triangulate modifier at the end of the stack for export to substance/unity. I always needed my mirror or array modifiers before this (for UV stacking).

Additionally the option to copy only one collection of modifiers between objects would be helpful. In the event there was an existing collection with the same name it would be replaced.

I don't understand the point of your request. You can drag them wherever you want, in any order. You're asking for some sort of grouping feature, so that you won't put things in an order that you don't want them to be? Just don't drag them there...?

Agree with @thorn. Can't see the point: If you regularly had 30 or 12 modifiers, maybe. But for 4 or even 6, adds bloat to the code and clutter to the UI without improving the UX.
