wouldn't that create non-manifold geometry? why on earth would you want that?

* @testure * I am thinking that we should not be asking why some artist wants to do some specific operation in art program. There is no "wrong" or "right" way to model things when art is being produced.

* @Artturi Mäntysaari * yes- but if the 'artist' wants to create non-manifold geometry, Blender will allow it- it's quite easy to achieve the result shown. Should a brand new user be able to accidentally create non-manifold geometry by checking a box? I lean toward no, especially without a clear use case for it.

* @testure * LOL. This is available in every mature extrude tool. Blender's extrude tool is half-assed.

* @testure * Yeah, I myself wouldn't be using that very often. Maybe with some modifier it can be producing something? I don't know. Anyways, I am thinking that it would be a checkbox in extrude operation properties that would by default be disabled. Now, if you extrude whole plane at once, you are creating a cube and the cap is generated to the other side, by default. If you extrude only part of the mesh, you are not generating the caps in Blender.

But if there was that kind of checkbox, you would be able to select if you wanna create that kind of cup shape by extruding whole plane or a cube.

testure

* @ThinkingPolygons * and yet nobody has specified a clear use case for such a feature. I find that pretty interesting.

testure

* @Artturi Mäntysaari * isn't that what solidify does? or am I missing something?

* @testure * Yeah, exactly. That would be cool to have in extrude tool also. And, bear in mind everyone who joined this conversation. I am at least thinking that we all just wanna make Blender better. We just might have different points of view. Let's try to keep our egos away from this. :)

This feature is in Cinema 4D, why not do it in a blender.
