History timeline

When you want to undo things today you go ctrl-z right and back step by step. It would be great if there was a history time line where all your previous commands was listed and you could just click on this timeline to go back to that particular time in development, would save alot of time and hassel since I feel the ctrl-z command doesnt work particulary well (lots of lag sometimes it feels like you have to press twice to back one step etc) I understand this would probably demand a lot of RAM, maybe you could alter this ins a setting like allow it to consume 2 g byte of ram (maybe saves your last 10 steps or so).

  • Where would this be? (a panel, a new editor, an existing editor, a menu, a popover)
  • Would it be saved on the .blend file, or preferences, or not saved at all.

When making proposals always try to answer as much as possible all the unknowns. It makes it easier for developers to get an idea of how big the project would be or how it fits in the rest of Blender.

Also we do have an Undo History which, although not in the visual form of a timeline, sounds like providing all the features asked here:

Perhaps what's needed is more of a GUI polishing.
