Locking Custom Normals

To enable specific work flows, an option "Lock normals" (or similar) would be benefitial. Not only would it negate the problem of data transfering between a split mesh and the original one but also specific shading styles would be possible to create in blender. Please review the Images attached.

Thank you for considering my request.

i was shocked to hear how behind belnder is other general 3D packages when it comes to normals.

So, this is something that would be nice. However, this issue honestly should be expanded beyond just locking the shape key, but also being able to modify a shape key normal. Most modern model formats support shape key or custom morph normals, such as glTF 2.0 and even fbx.

I want to add, this is one of those features that Blender is missing to be a Game Industry standard. Working with custom normals in Blender right now is VERY limited, only a couple modifiers, no way to visualize them, no way to manually edit them, no way to lock them...

Most people don't use them, that's the reason this is not very upvoted, but when you need it, you have to drop Blender from the pipeline. And they are pretty important to make good looking foliage or diplacement
