Modify Output Frame Number

Replace Output Time Stretching with Expression-Based Time Remapping

In Blender, the output frame number can already be modified through the Time Stretching (Old / New) parameters. These parameters de-correlate the Timeline frame from the Scene frame. This is very useful for FPS changes, but the system could be made much more flexible.

Instead, this could be replaced with an optional Time Remap parameter using a simple float expression, with @frame as the default value. This expression would define which Scene frame should be evaluated for the current Timeline frame.

This approach would allow simple and advanced time remapping (without keyframe manipulation) :

  • Slow down time with @frame / 2 (double output fps)
  • Speed up time with @frame * 2 (half output fps)
  • Offset time with @frame - 100 (offset output frame number)
  • Create complex time warps using animation
