Dragging Background Images in the Viewport like Layers

Hi there,

Setting up a shot with multiple reference images in the viewport using Background images is great, but it would be better if we could move the images vertically to determine the fore/back -ground.

The front and back placement is great but not useful when using more than two images.

Thanks, Beau

Background images are now done via Empty Image objects in the viewport, so no need to sort them since they can be moved around.

Although this still applies to Background Images from the Camera view.

Give 2.8 a try! Many things are tackled already.

@Pablo Vazquez: We need the option back to create a background directly fit in the camera view. I need it every day here in my production. The idea of using an empty for image import is nice, but please implement a function to automatically align and scale the image empty to the current active view or camera. It's really important. I just want to have a background by a few clicks and don't want to waste my time in tweaking.

I think that creating a real background list would be more appropriate. Like textures.
