UI: Align Active Camera to Selected
In the view menu there is the command: View->Align View->Align Active Camera to Selection.
As far as I can tell this command does not currently do anything.
In OBJECT mode this command could center and optionally zoom the camera into the object using the current view vector to the object.
In EDIT mode if a face is selected the camera cold be positioned directly "in front" of the face along the face's normal vector and optionally zoom.
If multiple vertices are selected a normalized vector from the "median point" to the object origin could be used.

Those behavior already exist in a pie menu with the tilde key "~".
Additionally, you can press shift + 7 on the numpad while in edit mode and having something selected. It will make the camera perpendicularly aligned to the active selection.
Shift+ (ctrl?) + numpad 1/3/9 aligns the view so that you are looking at the selected thing, on the respective +- x/y/z (or in some other order...) axis.
Ctrl+numpad 0 makes your active object a scene camera and makes you look through it.
So... Which of these do you want?
