1 - 7 Shortcuts to be used for Viewpoints

Currently all the numbered shortcuts are assigned to hiding collections. I don't this being too useful on a workflow where you have multiple collections. It just isn't easy to remember which collection is assigned to what number on numerous files.

But I do see it being useful for changing thew view quickly.

My current setup is: 1 for Top 2 for Bottom 3 for Front 4 for Back 5 for Left 6 for Right 7 for Perspective 0 for Camera

This would make the numbers work seamlessly for viewpoints, since perspective and camera are both viewing behaviours as well. It's been a great change on my workflow and I believe this could help others as well.

You know you basically already get this by enabling the Emulate Numpad feature in Preferences→Input, right?

* @Jason van Gumster * it's not a matter of knowing how to fix the problem for myself. It's a proposal most users - specially new - could get some good use of without understanding all toggles.

* @GabrielMoro * I don't really agree. If you're looking for hotkeys, then you've moved a bit beyond beginner level (especially in 2.8x). There are so many other, more beginner-friendly way to change views. I personally don't see the advantage of sacrificing this functionality by default to add one more.

Keyboard buttons like 1 - 7 is very sensitive area ( left hand hot zone).

Most of pro users already remap it for those own setup and dont want to change it for something else because someone think it would be better. So such users: a. don't care aout most of defaul remeppings because replace default after downloading new wersion is a first in " to do list " thing while preparing for work b. in actual Viev Orientation case - don't need such hotkeys because uses PIE's for such thing like View Orientation( we already have one default builtin, perfectly fit all option inside one button).

Believe me - your current setup is good for you and ( mostly ) nobody else. My one come so far so I can't work in default Blender at all and moving from 2.79 to 2.81 takes me few days.

Dont forget - you can create your own PIE's by PME addon.

* @IIIFGIII * but shouldn't Blender's keymap be mostly useful for new users? Is the current functionality in those keys really that great? I think it's mostly confusing. Being able to toggle between the views would make it more approachable as a sculpting tool.

* @GabrielMoro * Emm, I still don't switch to new Blender so have no experience working with collection. As I guess - you suggest this for Object mode. View Orientation manipulation you use in both Object and Edit modes. So better if it would be something which is same in both modes and not in conflict with all the Edit mode things. So maybe 1234... for collection in Object mode is not so bad.

1,2,3 is untouchable sublevel modes(vertex, edge, face). My own case - 4,5,6 ... (checker deselect, etc.). All the Shift, Alt and Ctrl + 1,2,3,4 - defaults replaced for my own ( like grow/shrink loop/ring, etc. ).

I use default view orientation PIE on Q + Align View to Active PIE on Alt + W + F5 for Perspective/Ortho. ( I don't like to use numpad - too far from left hand)

Gabriel, if you don't have Numpad on your keyboard (those number keys are assigned with views) then change any keys to your liking in Preferences/Keymap.

* @onfilm * I know that :) and I already do. But I think this would be more useful for laptop users. Perhaps changing the up numbers for views and the numpads for collections?
