Curve resolution based on tangent angle

Curve resolution based on tangent angles The way it is now is that the resolution is based on bezier handles sizes. Instead I think it would be usefull to keep the curves smooth with less geometry to base resolution on tangent angles.

Tangents are calculated from 0 to 1 ( start to end) of the Bézier curve. 1st tangent is placed at 0 (the start), 2nd tangent is placed when a specified angle is reached between 1st and 2nd tangent, same for the third etc.

I support this. In 3ds Max it is a spline option called "Adaptive". I used it all the time when I was still working with Max.

if someone want to implement this option here is a code sample (for 2d bezier curve but it should be easy to convert it for 3d space): antigrain.com/research/adaptive_bezier/index.html

this could come in very handy for reducing unneeded geometry

yes. Or at least decimate that can affect to virtual nodes

didnt know blender doesnt work like that, curves are really outdated in Blender

* @Orphydian * and more difficult to see than under 2.79...

🤨 3ds Max with outdated tools still compare up pretty well in so many comparison and Curves is no contest. Sorry blender

anodin

So perfect for optimisation !

This, set flow fully integrated (and not addon) and something like a face constraint for edit mode (maybe brought from the sculpting branch like that Topology slide relax brush twitter.com/pablodp606/status/1183803453715484673 ) would make the diff between Blender and the other packages in terms of modeling really negligible

It remember me an old ideia about subsurface by angle. But I'm not a developer so I don't know how hard this kind of thing could be to do.

Yes please, this request has survived too long without implimentation.

lilly5

im working on it

Omg YES thank you!!! Any dev page link of it we can follow?

danielpaulus90

You can use the decimate modifier, its triangulated but works really good.

simon.p.heggie

Nope. Fringe solution that only works some of the time for SOME cases, breaks the topology and slows the software down. The OP very clearly outlined what he's after, he's not after a solution with no idea how to get there, it's pretty obvious why this method is the way forward.

Also nobody asked for this; nobody is trying to solve just one solution where your idea applies, this ticket exists to solve a million possible problems with one solution. Sorry but I see these everywhere and they confuse casual observers who are happy to scroll down and assume that guy with the confidence in their writing is the last word on the subject.
