Allow assigning the same hotkey for Proportional Editing in every context!
I don't know if it is a lack of feature or an error... A design error probably.
- Blender 3.0.0
- MacBook Air M1
- @220315
I wanted to assign a shortcut for toggling Proportional Editing. You can find the areas where this function can be used by doing the following:
- Open: Preferences > Keymap
- In the search field enter: "proportion". It lists the following parts of Blender:
Dopesheet, Grease Pencil Stroke Edit Mode, Object Mode, Curve, Mesh, Metaball, Lattice, Particle, UV Editor, Mask Editing, Graph Editor
I started to assign the same shortcut for a few of these. Namely, and in order: in Object Mode, Mesh, UV Editor, Dopesheet, Graph Editor.
I found two "errors":
1.) When I went to the UV Editor, right clicked the Proportional Editing button it already had a shortcut assigned to it. When I removed it, the shortcut for Mesh mode also got removed. So the two is linked together. But it's not a real problem. The next one, it is:
2.) If I assign the same shortcut to all of these, only the first one assigned (namely: Object Mode) is working, the rest isn't. I guess the first one catches the command and if that area is not active nothing happens, because it "dissolves" the command for the rest of the KeyMap. If I'm thinking right.
It's inconvenient to use a different and unique shortcut for toggling Proportional Editing in Object Mode and Mesh/UV Editor and the others... Blender should be able to handle the same shortcut for every one of these areas. I suppose it could mean a bigger refactor... But could it be done, please?

I'm not a native English speaker, but could you rephrase your heading to something like: "Allow assigning the same hotkey for Proportional Editing in every context" since the current one is clearly not grammatically correct, and will be hard to find.
Thanx - as you can see, me neither :D Renamed. For the protection of my ego: if you interpret it analytically, I meant "let us be able to", thus the developers should allow us to do that. But yeah, it's weird, some twisted English :)
