Option to open file location in system file browser
Would be great to have ability to open folder containing every external data in system file browser. Could be hidden in secondary mouse button.

This feature is already in Blender since a while ( developer.blender.org/rB8e97e561a9b ), just super hidden. Committed change to add this to RMB menu: developer.blender.org/rBc1267bb800 .
Wow, awesome thanks for this tip and commit. BTW- shift alt clik on render output opens folder in explorer as expected- but on image editor same combination is opening location in blender file browser. If its simple fix then maybe it can work same way.
Hmm, this is a bit different, the button in the image editor header represents the data-block itself, not its file path. Alt or Shift don't do anything special for it. However the image editor shows the file path in the properties region (aka N-panel), the shortcuts to open the path/file externally should work there.
Also note, Alt-clicking the icon will always open the path in an external file browser, Shift-clicking it will open the file in an external app if possible. No need to hold both Alt and Shift (wasn't sure if that's clear). The new implementation only shows the options available and should be more clear, I'll probably remove the old behavior for 2.8.
* @Julian Eisel * no way to fill it with the actual selected directory
I upvoted this because it's a feature I find very useful in other applications, such as Unity. The reason that it's useful is that if you have a linked in file that Blender doesn't handle well natively, but can view, such as a .psd, it makes getting to the file in order to open and edit it a lot easier than using the system file explorer and navigating there.
Granted, most people are probably a lot more organised than me, but it's a handy feature to have, and would make a nice addition assuming it's not a lot of work to add and maintain.
You may want to mention why you think that this would be great. Be specific.
In out company we are working on local network. When It came to collaborate with some files it would be awesome to have a simple way to check where he put textures or linked file. To easy open textures in fifferent program. Or to open output folder during render to se how passes are saving. Such option is present in almoust every other aplication in pipeline. For example in premier it's called reveal in explorer.
The first half of your statement is much more valuable than the second half. That it's present in other applications is largely irrelevant.
That said, it probably wouldn't be all that difficult to write this as an add-on.
