Auto select catalogue

When an asset is selected, it would be great if the containing catalogue could also be selected automatically, or to have an option to do so.

This idea comes from this workflow :

1 - I look for an asset thanks to the search bar of the asset browser (for example I enter a tag I know, or a name of a product)

2 - I click on one of the asset found

3 - I would like to know what else is in the catalogue containing that asset. Now, I don't find any convenient way to know the catalogue that asset is in...

Another idea, to be consistent with blender's behavior, would be to select the catalogue when "numpad ." is pressed while the mouse is on the "source list" area of the asset browser and when an asset is selected in the main area of the browser. What do you think of that ?

Again, that sound like an unexpected behavior.

gregoiredurrens Author

why ? right now (3.5) numpad . does nothing in the source list area and it that's the behavior we find already in outliner, node, viewport, ...

Hm I'm not sure selecting an asset's catalogue automatically is a good call there. It sounds rather counter-intuitive to select something and have its parent also selected, that's never happening in Blender.

If all you want is to see or navigate to an asset's catalogue, then maybe the actual proposal should be a way to do exactly that.
A "Locate in catalogue" entry in the RMB contextual menu sounds more elegant to me.

You're right, that's more elegant and, right now I can't think of a situation where the autoselection would be annoying but I have the feeling there must be some. so a RMB entry indeed would be great.
