(Intelligent) font filter for file browser when searching for fonts containing specific Unicode characters
I have hundreds of fonts but only a small subset support certain characters I might want to use. It is cumbersome to try out every font in the file browser only to see tofu symbols most of the time for the text I already wrote.
On Linux with
fontconfig
package installed one can do this in a terminal emulator to figure out which fonts on the system support a character:
printf "%x\n" \'🪿
(which prints
1fabf
which then can be passed to another command:)
fc-list ':charset=1fabf'
(which prints e.g. this font list on my system:
/usr/share/fonts/Unifont/Unifont_Upper.ttf: Unifont Upper:style=Regular
/usr/share/fonts/twemoji/twemoji.ttf: Twemoji:style=Regular
/usr/share/fonts/joypixels/JoyPixels.ttf: JoyPixels:style=Regular
/usr/share/fonts/openmoji/OpenMoji-color-colr0_svg.ttf: OpenMoji Color,OpenMoji:style=Regular,Color
/usr/share/fonts/openmoji/OpenMoji-black-glyf.ttf: OpenMoji Black,OpenMoji:style=Regular,Black
/usr/share/fonts/noto/NotoColorEmoji.ttf: Noto Color Emoji:style=Regular
)
Maybe blender could make use of something like this and check the chars in already written text when e. g. a checkbox is selected in the file browser or add filters in the file browser for common things like "CJK", "Emojis", etc.
