Select & Move Collection with Single Click
Hi! When working with collections, especially in archviz, i find it quite annoying that to select and move a collection i have to rightclick on the collection title and click on "Select objects". Wouldn't it be better to just click on the collection name to select all objects? It could be a setting to toggle or just pressing ALT or SHIFT + Click.. or just a single click on the collection title. Like what C4D does (i'm a C4D user as well).
Here's a quick video of what i mean twitter.com/i/status/1315747477392424961

What are you asking for is called grouping, right now Ctrl+G creates a new collection well an instance of the objects in that collection, so you have to add the collection instance into your scene then you can manipluate those instances which are linked to your objects ..etc it's a big mess.. like the others have said the problem with that is you can link objects to different collections.
what needs to be done is to make collections act like grouping with parent/child relation to the objects inside them even if they're linked into other collections and make Ctrl+G actually create that realation while adding a new collection in the outliner/scene, the standard in other DCCs grouping.
* @Pascal 0 * What i'm really asking for is not changing the actual collection/grouping/linking behaviour, but adding an option to select whole collection with one single click (with SHIFT or ALT or whatever), which would only be a shortcut to rightclick-select objects.
Doubt it would be possible because an Object can exist in more than one Collection. blender really needs to implement standard Groups, that way not only can a Group just be selected in the Viewport and we would be able to add a Modifier or Particle System or Lattice to a Group. But I doubt that will ever happen. The devs seem to think that Collections are enough :-(
I have been begging for them to make single click selecting a collection a toggle somewhere since collections were introduced.
I tried to build a space ship piece by piece, and got about a quarter of the way through and gave up because I needed to be able to select collections like assemblies of parts. When things get complicated like in ArchVIs, or a complex machine things fall apart very quickly. I'll never understand how some people tolerate it.
Every conversation I have seen about his has turned into torches and pitchforks.
Also need to select content of multiple collections (at least with context menu) better of course without. Why not clicking right besides the name selects its content? +SHIFT to add another. Video: {attachment Blender_2020-10-16_16-23-39mp4}
Hi. You might want to suggest your idea here too (the GSOC is over but Nate Craddock might be interested):
