Outliner and Files Browser should work in same way
So, i'm on 2.81 and i like how the "new" Outliner works (except crtl+lmb still doesn't deselect). But why isn't the File Browser working in the same way? Too many times did i begin to rename files when i tried to select. I think it's a good idea to keep them equal when it comes to commands. The confusion arises.

'DO NOT RE-INVENT THE WHEEL': As a programmer/designer/artist I would recommend using a standard library 'TreeView' for file, outliner and any other hierarchical properties. It's a trivial amount of work to attach any desired sortable tags, properties and actions to the data items at any level, and it will synchronise semi-automatically with a plan/layout/icon/list-view (like a file browser) to allow varying methods of managing and accessing the various items. I know Blender originated before many UI conventions were standardised but reading your bug reports and UI issues it is clear that most would be avoided by using standard libraries for standard functionality. The benefit of this work would be in easier user acceptance, less everyday bugs and would be preparation for Tablet/phone touch operation (not to be sneered at). For a good example how to do it check out OnShape CAD which runs like a UI dream on web, tablets, phone & etc.
