Remap Default Collection-Hiding Keybinds

By default, all of the number keys (0-9) are bound to hiding and isolating collections in the outliner. I believe these keybinds should be either rebound to something more useful (such as switching between workspaces) or unbound by default. These shortcuts were useful back when blender utilized layers to manage your scene instead of collections. However, now that collections can have several levels of nesting and complex hierarchies, the current keybinds can often lead to confusion and frustration for new and old users alike (I still find myself caught off guard when all but one of my collections disappears at once). Additionally, the outliner already has dedicated buttons for hiding and isolating collections, making these default keybinds redundant and unnecessary. blender_FIzExHeIkZ.png

It's sort of absurd that blender has 40 default hotkeys assigned to hiding collections.

agreed, but as with most bad ideas there's a good reason for it. the old blender had a view layer matrix and the number keys controlled it- so when the view layer matrix went away and collections were added these hotkeys were there to help ease the transition for people with years of muscle memory.

that said I think it's time to rip the bandaid off

Well, as the current Blender does not have this layer matrix, it needs to be deprecated.

The hotkey doesn't seem to even perform the action described in the preferences. "1" doesn't HIDE collection 1 (for example), it hides every OTHER collection.

IE, it's akin a SOLO setting.

There are discussions about getting rid of these shortcuts for Blender 4.0.

It hasn't been decided yet what functionality is going to replace it but it's likely going to be simply unassigned so users can map it to whatever they want.

Ah, that's nice to hear. Just wondering though, is there reasoning to wait for 4.0's release? (I'll admit, I'm not too sure what blender's release timeline looks like rn)

Changes that break muscle memory - such as shortcuts, are better done in a major version upgrade so people can continue using Blender 3.x LTS if they need time to adapt.

Blender 4.0 sounds far away but development for it starts in just two months (May 2023).

They def have to go. And I like your idea of putting workspaces there. I know there can be more than 9, but then that's for Shift+numbers :)

They might as well be assigned to the viewpoints for at least the default number keys. Since Emulate Numpad maps them there anyway, just have them be the number keys by default.
