Match camera view to selection

Hello

I want to request a feature or addon, i'm going to try code it my self, but i'm really bad at it. So as i think it would be usefull for more people than me, maybe someone could help (the Blender devs maybe? are you guy here?)

The target is to fit the objects on the render "canvas", using the selection to choose with objects take in count, and moving the camera to do the aligning (so scene don't get messed up) I have three modes in mind:

Contain : The selection fits the small size of the render, so all the selection is visible by camera and some empty space is left around selection. Contain mode example

Cover : The selection fits the bigger size of the render, so it fills all the render size. Some objects (or parts) can get out of camera view Cover mode example

Fit : The selection fits both render dimensions, getting all selection visible, and no empty space left. Render size proportion must be changed to match the 'selection box' proportions. Fit mode example

some extra features:

  • If the active object is a camera, set this one as active camera before doing the main process
  • If not in "Camera View", align the camera to view before doing main process. This one should be disableable.

Here's a layout for the buttons I've thought: buttons layout

And here a public link to a "code map" (mind map of code structure): public code map - password: blender
