Let us paste values across no matter the associated unit of measurement.
When pasting values between inputs that have different units of measurement, the operation fails. For instance in the shader editor, pasting rotation values (with 'd' at the end) into a value node, Blender will throw up this kind of error:
('unexpected EOF while parsing', ('<string>', 1, 6, '-51.5d'))
You'll notice this a lot if you have to change where certain values are stored and accessed.
What should be happening:
The user shouldn't be tasked with removing unit of measurement characters before pasting. When the user copies data over to the value node, the unit of measurement character should be ignored in favor of the default character of the target paste location.
