UV transform / UV Gizmo
It would be super awesome and handy to move/rotate/scale UV maps through Gizmo. Everything is needed to add UV checkbox to the options menu.

We just need f*** UVMap modifier. With all the Planar, Box, Cylinder, etc projections and own UV gizmo inside. Same as 3D Max or any other 3D modeling software has.
What the point of all this stupid walking around like " how to make UVMap modifier but not UVMap modifier to not make same UVMap modifier as others already has & use many years "...
* @IIIFGIII * Agree!! I miss this feature from other software just to type box size and get real scale mapping. But i guess it doesn't match Blender concept blah blah blah... So my proposal as simple as possible, to get small hope for UV gizmo :)
* @IIIFGIII * Well - then write a proposal and gather upvotes. Cursing alone won't solve anything.
* @IIIFGIII * Yeah, and I miss being able to import-export UVs.
* @-L0Lock- * or even merge and copy UVs, for that matter. Though those two are very error prone even in Software where it's implemented pretty robust, from my experience. Still would sometimes helpt to have it.
* @Alex * Yes because the blender devs always have an open ear for professional's wishes. They rather seams to circumvent by force every standard, production proven concept they are asked to implement and try to always find the most clumsy and inconvenient solution possible. Everyday UV mapping tools in Blender are crude. 3dsmax UVW modifier with it's own gizmo concept plus face selection is so easy to use, 95% of the time you don't need an unwrap.
* @IIIFGIII * Exactly. I'm slowly gravitating back towards 3dsmax because Blender is full of such annoying shit.
* @vangel * I'm in the process of working with Maya and I find just as many annoying small issues with the UI. Different issues yet still. And Maya also has extremely annoying bugs that are known for years and never got a fix from the devs.
Pick what works for you. If Max is the program you can work with faster, then go for it.
* @IIIFGIII * Don't you want to submit a proposal with your gif?
* @nick * No I don't. I have long been tired of writing my own proposals. This place is pointless, most of this suggestions mean nothing and cause nothing to happen... Just sitting here for fun.
Yes absolutely! ACtually a dedicated Gizmo with dedicated options like Box, Planar etc. would be even better!
This can be somewhat achieved by the UV Projection modifier. Other than what the documentation makes it sound it takes other objects (any transform, really) and does a planar UV projection from -Z from that object. The modifier can take more than one object simultaneously and it's the closest thing to transforming UVs we currently have. Make sure to select the correct UV Map as well, if you have more than one.
I agree that this should be easier accessible. Together with a UV transform Modifier, or better yet - a node, this would be dope. And a fully functional non destructiveediting/UV workflow.
UVs really do need a lot more love.
* @Alex * Of course it is possible to do, but UV mapping not feels so comfortable for now. UV Projections is good for complex mapping, but for fast editing it is obviously bad thing. Even in the non-rendering software often you can transform UV maps directly in viewport, it is especially convenient when you adjusting maps for certain camera.
* @nick * I'm not saying we don't need it. We certainly do. UVProjection also is a rather clumsy substitute, at that as it takes ages to set up and fails when you want to fiddle with more than one texture map on the same UV set.
I'm a game artist, mainly. I've bee craving better UV tools and unwrap algorithms for years, now!
I was merely pointing out what you or anyone else reading this can do in the meantime. :)
My god this would be really useful.
Hi there, Coming from 3Ds max, I have completely switch my workflow to blender one year ago. I solved this missing tool by creating an addon: Quick Uv Pro that gives you box and plane gizmos, but also a modal uv that allows you to handle the uv in 3D viewport. Here are 3 demos: youtu.be/BcOruf5mJf0 youtu.be/s2FKRMW3N7c youtu.be/r8SKCY5zp0o
Links to the addon are mentionned in the videos description
Hope it will help

I wrote a plugin that does something like this about a year ago. You can get it from Blender Marker or from its Github page: youtube.com/watch
Actually 3ds max also create empty for gizmo but it is automatic process and hence no one cares about it. also 3ds max is node-based but no one knows. blender should also implement internal empty, lattice.
The original proposal is good. The ideas in the comments are terrible.
