AFAIK, it is planned to be able to put modifiers on collections (and "everything nodes might help as well). When it will be done, you would just have to use a boolean modifier on a collection you want to cut through.
While the video is handy, it's not sufficient to post a link to another application and say "make it like this." How would you implement this feature to work in Blender ? Include mock-up images that illustrate how you expect the workflow would be for a typical user.
* @Jason van Gumster * When it comes to product design and especially the assembly of components, there is always an expectation of looking into the cross sections. Most of the time you will never come across the presentation of (esp. plastic products) being presented without the cross sections. My preference was always keyshot in rendering till the date I chose to expand my rendering capabilities beyond product design and that brought me to blender :) If the audience using mechanical engineers are very less and work required is more then definitely it shouldn't be considered :) I am in CAD field for 7 years now and I totally understand this "because I saw in another application, so should be in this" :)
