Customize Node Inputs

Allow us to change the type of a group node input using some form of dropdown menu in the I/O part of the N-key menu, instead of using overcomplicated workarounds that sometimes don't work to change their type. Also allow for boolean checkmarks and dropdown menus.

There is a work in progress patch for this: developer.blender.org/D10912

That's cool, but I do hope they add ALL the input types not just 3-4 common ones. Sometimes you'd want to have a boolean 0/1 checkbox go into a Math node for example or something like that :)

Yeahh .... this auto input assignment is kind of sucks. I would prefer see in Blender system like UE Material Functions , with customizable input nodes of different data types - Scalar, V2/3/4, Boolean, etc.

Or if it has to look such "Blender Like" with single I/O node - again UE bluprint nodes example IMO look as perfect ready to use instruction of "how it should work/look". Customizable list of inputs with data type selection.

Not some "auto assignment" awkward something, which work bad as shit if u want to use same input for different things...

This is a feature I would like to see in material nodes as well!

RC12

This is now implemented in blender, and should be marked as done

It is (3.0.0) however there are only 4 types: float, vector, color and shader, which doesn't solve the issue completely. What if I wanted the input to be a integer not a float. Or a percentage value, a boolean checkbox, string, object, angle, image, collection etc? This is something Blender already HAS the option for, but is left unconfigurable for some reason. (Navigate to Outliner>Blender API>Node Tree>Shader>Nodes>Group>Inputs>"input name"> and you will see two dropdowns: Type and Shape. Same goes for Outputs. i.imgur.com/PvPUXyc.jpg

And no, changing it there crashes Blender.

It lets you select all the socket types supported in that node editor.

A lot of them are supported, just missing for some reason. You can add them with a python script, but that isn't the end solution. imgur.com/a/wH7dLgQ
