More Statistics, Natively
When the viewport overlay "Statistics" checkbox is checked, the 3D view displays some useful statistics on the top Left. There could be more useful statistics there, such as Selected surface area, perimeter, accumulative edge length, and so on.
During one project, I had to use an Addon just to calculate face areas, which I think is overkill...

Face Area measurement is native in Blender since forever:
This feature has been hidden to me since I started learning blender in 2022. I just went searching and was almost convinced you had a special feature.... turns out, this overlay menu is only visible in EDIT MODE.
Which makes sense, but it is also only clickable when overlays is on. And it also behaves differently than the overlays toggle... in that it isn't a toggle, it simply provides options that you can then toggle. Not very consistent behavior, in my opinion.
Still, happy to discover this exists... can't believe I never noticed it and it took me so long to find even when I saw your screenshot.
This shows the area of each selected face, not their sum.
