Rotate the view in 3d viewport

In the 3d viewport you can orbit and pan the view to an objekt but I miss the rotate view the scene. Maybe you want to creat objekt on a uv sphere, and the object on the upper part and also on the down part and side part, than it would be nice to rotate the view to creat them horizontal and not vertical or flipped. There is other software where you can do something like that and I find it very comfortable. In 3dSlicer.org for example there is this function in the 3d view panel. This software is also open source software. You can of course rotate the view with shift and press 4 or 6, but orbit and pan don't adjust and behave as if the view were normally oriented. This is very confusing when it comes to the controls with MMB.

Thanks a lot for your quick response. #zuorion, That wasn't what I was looking for. I've already added the key combination, but then you can no longer pan or move objects well.

#Shimoon The change from turntable to trackball is exactly what I was looking for. I will take a look at the 3 suggested addons which one I like best, but the change alone is already very helpful.

Do I need to do something and mark the question as answered or close it?

You mean roll?

Its just not mapped by default.

Currently the scrollwheel binding doesn't exist in 2.8, however you can add it back yourself. Under User Preferences > Input > 3D View > 3D View (Global), press Add New and set the operator to view3d.view_roll. Create a binding for both left and right:

Does trackball orbit method fix your issue? (prefs > navigation > orbit & pan > change the orbit method from turntable to trackball). If this is what you are talking about, there are a few addons that bring those controls right in the viewport such as View Orbit Modal , Toogle Orbit or Orbit which I personally use.
