Right Click Select Themers Section

There are two things that all Blender users agree on, 1 the theme editor makes about as much sense as dehydrated water and 2 it will never be fixed by the Devs, and to be honest why would they be concerned with how pretty Blender looks, but i am, simply because Blender can look soooooo pretty. The Solution add a section on right click select, call it Themer's repository, once thats in place Blender users can post what theyve discovered in the theme editor so for instance the box

box open.JPG

the box options have no effect on most of the interface except for three areas and they are located in the Spreadsheet, file browser and asset browser, knowing that saves me a lot of clicking though a multitude of screen because i know know that inner, selected, outline, roundness and shaded affect those three panels to the left . If the theme editor can be mapped so that a guide can be produced by the community that would take the pressure off the Devs. a standardised form for uploading discoveries could be used, it would be nice to see how the community would engage with such an idea, the Guide could be produced as a PDF.

Are you saying that the devs don't care about how Blender looks? It would be at the very least ignorant of all the devs' work (which you can look up here , or on any release note 's interface chapter).
I could be just misinterpreting, but it doesn't help with the opening phrase claiming to be the whole community's opinion and making decisions for the devs. Not the best way to open any form of dialogue 🙃

This aside, it doesn't sound like a feature proposal for Blender - which is what this platform is for.
It's asking the community to make a sort of reverse-engineered user-manual for the theme editor. Why not, but it would be better to post this on blenderartists.org where more people of the community are, and where you could actually collect the community-input required to build such a document.

I doubt it will remove any pressure off the devs' shoulders. At best, it will just be a collection of highlights of where the theme editor does lack user-friendliness. But the need for a better theme editor will remain.

I was in no way suggesting or implying that the Devs don't care how blender looks, but i would take an educated guess when the choice is given between aesthetics or function, the choice is probably always going to be the function, that's all i was saying. as far as blender artist goes, i may try that. on your last point, im not sure i follow your logic, the community decide to get together and put this into action which stops any requests for work on the theme editor, how is that not taking pressure off the Devs? you even agree in your very last point, "but the need for a better theme editor will remain" if you agree that to be the case, why would you oppose it?

You seem to assume that having a PDF about the theme editor will make people not want a better theme editor, at least cease to ask for it.

Let's look at the example of the NLA editor: it has been a convoluted editor since its birth. There have been countless tutorials made for it, manuals and guides about it. Yet people are so turned down by the NLA that few people seem to even know what it is, some people don't even know that Blender can do layered animation, and the few users that know the NLA enough still do their best to avoid using it because it's that annoying.
So, despite the documentation being there, not only it fails to reach people, but even for those it reaches: it doesn't convince them that it's a good enough situation. Users have been posting plenty of requests to make it better for almost two decades. And now in the animation 2025 project , the devs are working on it.

I think we can draw lots of lines here.

  • Much like the NLA, the theme editor is far from being user-friendly and has all the symptoms to prove it.
  • Much like the NLA, it has been like this for a lot of time. Long enough for people to exchange on forums giving tips on how to change stuff they want or make addons to avoid the complicated tasks altogether.
  • Much like the NLA, people have complained that it was abandoned by the devs and probably would always be

But now the NLA is being worked on. We don't know exactly how it will look like at the end of Animation 2025, but the little we know seems to be headed in the right direction AFAICT.

In fewer words, you are more than welcome to initiate more documentation for the theme editor, but it will not prevent people from asking a better theme editor. Probably won't even prevent people from understanding the theme editor still.

You literally typed "and to be honest why would they be concerned with how pretty Blender looks", so...

The developers continue to make visual revisions to the interface, and try to make it more attractive and unified. They have given us a few hundred settings in the theme editor to adjust things.

But at the end of the day, people need to remember that blender is intended to be a 3D program, not a playground for theme editing.

maybe we should agree to disagree.
