Quick snapshot of the viewport
My workflow issue : Let's say my boss wants me to send him a couple of quick visuals of the default cube under different views. There are a couple of options to tackle this...
- The correct (but long) workflow. Create as many cameras as views are needed, render each one individually, save them in a folder, go to that folder, send the content of the folder over. Delete the images because I don't need them...
- My current workflow : using windows' box snapshot, select APPROXIMATELY the viewport area, paste in Skype, pan the viewport, repeat. That works fine, but every time my box selection is slightly different, and I have to toggle off the overlays...
- The ideal workflow : press F-whatever <- this snaps the current state (as in current samples etc) of the viewport in the clipboard, with overlays automatically disabled (or not, I wouldn't mind if it was a WYSIWYG thing), and no part of the UI visible. From there it's just pan - paste, snap - pan - paste...
I know there is the option to screen shot the current editor, but it requires a saving step and doesn't use the clip board, which I don't need for this purpose. But it would be the ideal place to put this menu entry : Grab Screenshot (Viewport) What do you think ?

View > Viewport Render Image
I think I've seen recently that there's a project of making the render stored in copy/paste buffer?
But other than that, it really sounds like a very specific thing that is already well covered by just doing screenshots by any means provided by your OS and its applications.
What am I missing?
I hadn't thought of the Viewport Render Image function, that's a good lead, thanks ! But unfortunately it doesn't work with cycles render preview which is what I am aiming for... Also the following OS screenshot is not pixel perfect and would require manual cropping but the WIP patch for copy pasting from the image editor would indeed take care of this issue.
you can assign a photshop action to crop your area to automate the task.
Yes there are plenty of workarounds, and going through photoshop just to crop and put it back in the clipboard is not really a quick workaround... But thanks for the tip :)
