Clicking the down arrow button must provide a reason.

This is not a suggestion about the blender function, but a suggestion about rightclickselect.com .

I think adding a few different opposition buttons can make the publisher more aware of what he is not doing well, and the number of opposition buttons becomes larger, so that we can receive more criticism rather than opaque support and opposition.

This has been proposed before:

A DownVote should have an explanation to be valid — Right-Click Select

For any voting system to be fair, one of the things you must pay attention to is making each option equally accessible. If downvoting requires posting an answer but upvoting doesn't, then you favor upvoting. For that reason alone, you should either require commenting for both vote options, or not at all.

From my experience on multiple platforms over the years, trying to force people to comment in order to be able to vote will only bring the comments quality downwards.
You will never force people to explain why they downvote. If you just force them to post, you can be sure you will see a lot of meaningless comments if not straight out spam that people will send just for the sake of unlocking the vote. And those who will post something relevant, they just got slapped with a barrier, statistically they will globally be in a lesser disposition to be constructive and friendly. In other words, blocking the votes by forcing comments will just make the overall experience worse for everyone.

When it comes to my personal experience on RCS, I'm part of those who try to post feedback as many times as I can. It is time-consuming, and it almost always leads to further discussions and argumentation, which turns every comment into a possible sinkhole of time and stress.
Sometimes I just want to press a button and go to the next one. Sometimes the proposal is really just poor quality and I leave it to other people who'll have the courage to do more.
If I end up being forced to post in order to vote, I know that my participation on RCS will significantly reduce.

Thank you for your answer for making my function request clearer. If we add a few more different objection buttons, we can quickly sink more bad suggestions. At the same time, the author also knows the general reason, which is more in line with the spirit of openness.

by this logic, an upvote should also require a reason. I don't need to specify a reason to dislike a bad idea, sorry. As someone posting a proposal, the burden is on YOU to convince others your idea has merit- not the other way around.

Related: use the META tag for proposals relating to RCS itself.

I understand the frustration. There's one specific person who seems to be downvoting most of the recent proposals without ever providing a reason, but they should have every right to do so.

I agree with L0Lock: Forcing people to comment reduces the chance of a downvote simply to avoid the work of commenting, and then could lead to judgement/targeting of those that comment with spam to simply be able to vote. I'm even of the opinion that votes should be completely anonymized, since some people may demand a reason or simply downvote perfectly fine proposals because that person downvoted theirs. It can be nerve-wracking to be the sole downvoter on a popular proposal. None of us are above this bias, as I've demonstrated above by noticing a chronic downvoter myself.

Hopefully that helps clarify the reasons for the current system!

As a perennial online shopping user, I think the idea of "voting" is fine, but because I often receive opposition from someone, it may lead to hatred, so I hope that the vote will become anonymous and visible only to the administrator. Or add a few more objection buttons (duplicate function, imperfect design, can not understand, do not know the use), or delete these two buttons and change them to "good comment" and "bad comment"

I think voting/upvoting/downvoting was anonymous at one point on right click select? I can't remember the reasons for the change, but it probably was to do with transparency. Blender likes positive /negative communication all out in the open I guess. They also had a problem with spam bots. I think that is why no brand new users can sign up to right click select recently..

As this appears to be a letter to forim participants, I will respond as one.

It appears to me that you have started three different requests, and only one of them has received downvotes. So I'm not sure why you're implying that everything you suggest gets downloaded.

Had I seen your request on the video editor in the past, I probably would have downloaded it because I don't believe any time whatsoever should be dedicated or spent improving the video editor in blender.

The suggestion for nodes that create a mesh of a spotlight or a camera, I did not vote or downvote. But, I don't even see the need for it. You might gain a bit more traction, if you give examples as to why you think this would be a great value to the user.

I have received down votes or suggestions I have made as well. At times I wonder why, but it doesn't stress me out a lot. I appreciate the up votes I get, and sort of move on with life.

According to my own failure experience as a community, I often encounter users attacking each other in private, resulting in the collapse of other users in the whole community, so I am afraid that this will be used as a battlefield. Generally speaking, I do not engage in war. But I see that two people often oppose each other and do not forget to oppose others continuously. I think it is because some people are used to opposing, rather than improving themselves by attacking others. Here, I will vote against it only if I am really dissatisfied that it affects the original function of Blender, or if the function is duplicated.

I think requiring people who downvote to also write comments would create a more toxic comments section... hmm.. Maybe you just have to add extra text to your proposals. I looked through some of your proposals and some just include only an image. (the images seem very well put together and some are popular) however some may feel they cannot upvote it if the image is not also clearly explained with text. half of your proposals do not have any downvotes at all so I dont really get your point. I personally haven't downvoted any of your proposals, you seem to put a lot of effort into your image mockups, but sometimes images are not enough to explain why a change in blender is important. So if your asking for a way to improve hope that helps. Also downvotes should not seem like a personal attack, just because one idea is downvoted, does not mean a future idea will be.
