Add Sculpt/Paint Brush Option to Continously Sample Under Cursor

Right now brushes only affect the mesh when you move the cursor. Even if you decrease the sampling rate to 1%.

I propose a new option added to the stroke settings to have brushes affect meshes without needing to move the mouse, per some specific rate.

One cool application for this is it makes it easier to simulate pottery wheels in blender.

And there are probably other cool applications for this.

Unless I'm misunderstanding you, this feature already exists as the "Airbrush" stroke type.

Sure, though you get the same end result using circular symetry.

I'm pretty sure Pablo Dobarro tried implementing this when he was still working on the sculpt mode, and posted some functional demos, but ended up giving up on it because it was to costly in maintenance and resources or something, and circular symmetry basically already did the job.

That sounds very interesting! I would love to see the demos out of curiosity!

Also I'm sure continuous sampling can be used for more applications than radial symmetry, (the spiral I make is one example that can't be made with it), but I do understand if implementing this function is too costly.

But if not, I do think this could be a nice addition for both sculpt and paint.

I'm trying to find old posts of Pablo Dobarro on projects.blender.org but all this is 2-3 years old so it's a bit hard to find the right posts.

There was a commit sent to make the brush spacing take animation into account (so to make pottery), but it looks like it's been stuck in revision so far:

A few things I found that might be interesting to understand how things went back then:

Also he used to post lots of nice tweets about what he was doing on Blender's sculpt mode:

Thanks a lot for your efforts!

It looks it was open before migration to the new development platform, so fingers crossed it gets picked up :D
