save and edit assets globally from any file. No need to open asset blend files and manually append new/edited assets.
at the moment if you create an asset in your current blend file and decide you'd like to save it as an asset for future use by all blend files, you have to open the blend file where you keep your assets, import your object/material/etc, and then save the assets blend file.
Would be awesome to just save directly to the asset blend file by just dragging the object/material/etc to an asset folder. All the manual steps could be done automatically and headlessly.
Same goes for editing an asset, once edited, just click 'update asset globally'

The amount of clicking that right now is needed to make an asset is the nr.1 thing why I don't bother to use Asset Browser at all.
yeah, it should just be:
click create new asset choose the folder (much like pressing m and selecting a container)
Then when editing an asset:
click save asset accept to overwrite or choose new folder
The above two should just be like the file save menu.
Then to insert an asset:
open asset browser or alt shift a to bring up a floating asset browser (similar to the shift a menu but with small icons). click one to have it placed at the 3d cursor.
At the moment it's like having to boot up a second computer to save edits to a notepad file.
This would save time for me personally. Not sure if this is efficient, but being able to save assets to an asset path as a .asset file. So each asset has its own file, then there just needs to be a way to store the Asset Library tree for organizing. But organizing Assets should be possible from any blend file. Maybe this would need to be a toggle, so teams can use a more locked asset path.
I totally like the current solution, besides minor shortcomings.
-It is a perfect solution for maintaining consistency and avoiding redundancy
-One click updates would be a mess when working in a team, assuming everyone would fiddle around with assets.
-You can also link between files, but this also means all your older files get updated maybe with a wrong asset. So a "global update" would destroy all my old projects.
-You are free to organize your assets as you like, either many files with a few assets, or less files with many assets.
-You can keep super big asset files, as you don't need to open them before inserting there is no need for a copy paste solution. And adding something to an asset file would always mean to rewrite the whole file- this will always be slower then adding.
-Also backup is easy because you just need to care about your blend files and not a database system which is always hard to maintain.
-For new assets i just right click a a similar asset and add it to the same file, mark it, save and done. No messing with finding the file assigning new paths etc. Also nice for multiple assets sharing the same material.
-In short, for me it is almost perfect.
