Snap > Selection to Cursor (Offset) 2D
I propose a new snap to cursor with offset that only works in two dimensions, or from the view.
I often want to snap things in only two dimensions, but the current snap to cursor with offset only works in three dimensions. So it usually takes a few extra steps to get the selection where I want it, usually having to reconfigure the snap settings.
Snapping with offset in two dimensions would be much faster with fewer steps/clicks.

Although rarely used I'd imagine this is not that difficult to add. UI-wise it just needs one more button for the 2d snapping and the rest is like an angle constraint where the magic happens on screen. That way it would work with diffrent pivot centers and custom transforms as well.
FWIW, you can already do this by using the 3D cursor as a pivot and scaling to zero along a particular axis. No, it's not a "snap", but it's functionality that does exactly what you're asking for.
@Jason van Gumster: I knew I should have rotated the cube 45 on y for the demo image. Because scaling wouldn't work for that. Scaling like your example only works because vertices are aligned.
@OldVamp: Still doable with custom transform orientations.
