Weight paint/automatic weight control
I did not find any information about the parameters affecting automatic weight painting. Automatic weight, and from envelope are both accessible with Ctrl P, and with the menu in weight painting mode.
For the envelope it is quite clear, it is and the envelope distance and weight, and the head and tail radius.
But what about the parameters for the automatic assignment from bones ?
Where could we find the information ? Could it be documented ? Could these parameters be accessible for the user ?

It is true. The popular 'Auto-Weights' is not Customizable... at all!; and that can be considered a big limitation for Rigging in Blender. If compared to the almost 'legacy' system of Envelope Weights (that maybe is used by less than 1% users?), the latter, as ancient as it, has a smart and pretty advanced Design, when it comes to Customization features of HOW the AUTOMATION of the Weights will occur; more than that, it provides an in-built, realtime readapation of those Envelope Weights, by readjusting its different values, Slider Buttons, even Envelope Bone Properties directly from the 3D Viewport Editor.
Why in Blender there isn't yet any kind of improvement of the regular Auto-Weights, by reusing this kind of Customizable developmental design/concept [of the Envelope Bones] for smarter Automatic Weights, per Deform Bone, (even if the non-destructive, readaptive feature I've mentioned in the end, and that happens to the Envelope Bones regarding their peculiar Envelope Weights, might be a bit too alien and complicated to implement for the more regular Weight Paint system), is hard for me to grasp.
There should be Options allowing the riggers (inside Blender only) to play with Auto-Weights, Customizing, per Deform Bone, HOW their Influences will be (Re-)Generated. For example... a set of 2 Deform Bone with Shared/Blended Weights, could already contain, from the Auto-Weights configuration by the rigger, some sorte of Smoothing. This is just a very simple example; I'm sure there are way more interesting possibilities for Customizing the Auto-Weights system.
