Edit, actually I've tested on the odd angles of an icosphere and it seems to work well there too.

* I use the offset edges modifier in the Mesh Tools addon. By itself, it isn't interactive at all, but I made a modal using Pie Menu Editor. If you're interested, you can get the PME Import file on

What I really want is "UNCLAMP" the all damn thing... so I can inset outside like in every other 3d app lol...
