store render settings with the render slots in the image editor
sometimes you test out various render settings and save each render in a different slot in the image editor so you can compare them as you tweak.
To save keeping a manual note of what the settings were for each slot, It would be really handy if the slot could also store the settings for the render stored in it. Then there could be a button in the image editor called revert to this slots render settings.

This workflow seems like it's prone to error because it doesn't have sufficient feedback. What happens when a user re-opens a .blend file that they've used to work this way? By default, Blender jumps right back to render slot one. What if the settings you want were stored on slot 2? Re-rendering becomes a huge chore of settings accounting.
* @Jason van Gumster * I agree. It seems increment-and-save is the best option here.
* @Jason van Gumster * I didnt mean it would automatically revert to the settings stored in the current slot, I meant it would store them, with the option to click 'match scene render settings to stored'
