UI: Visual button toolbar
The button toolbar could be improved by showing keys rather than the names of keys, because this is visually more discernible. The functions that are turned off, such as Clamp and Vertex only in this mockup, are shown as turned off in dark grey. Perhaps the active subcommand, e.g. Segments in the Bevel tool could also be differentiated from the others, such as Width. This ultimately also reduces clutter by removing the on/ off text in the toolbar.

this would be nice, most people dont even know whats written at the bottom are shortcuts. because they are written like that
This will cause visual clutter and exhaust in repetitive operations. In blender 2.8 there are 3 spots which flashes with every operation: the area header, the status bar and the gizmos...but in 2.79 only the header was changing. So this is already too much of losing concentration. After a while that you learnt the key maps there is no real use for it and it becomes only a pain in the eyes..
But it's a good idea for beginners learning blender. Could be a toggle option.
So styling the key shortcut to look like keys? It's an info bar that's showing the current mode of the input.
Yeah, that (and the knife tool...) UI that's not consistent with some of the other contextual menus, like adding a UV sphere.
But it is efficient, you can switch between live value sliders with keys. but there's not an option for pure mouse/pen input... it seems to be some of the legacy UX, which was very efficient for one hand on mouse, one on keyboard.
I'd propose I hybrid between the two. have a pop up contextual options selector, but also keep the hotkeys and old method of input?
If you know the info screen you know how it works, to mee its visual clutter, we should not make blender distractive with jingles and bells
maybe just a different color for the shortcuts would increase readability enough
