Lowering the viewport refreshes so often that your eyes are going to get tired

Is there a possibility to reduce this frequent pointless refreshing by not doing viewport refreshing while zooming and moving the viewing screen in the preview window. I know that zooming the viewport while adding detail to the preview will cause the viewport to refresh, I mean after all, I'm not outputting the image at infinite detail, maybe about the same amount of detail is enough to not need frequent refreshes
