Improve emulate 3 button mouse setting

Hello,

Would it be reasonable idea to ask for looking into how the emulate 3 button mouse is currently implemented and maybe there is a way to improve it?

I really like that you can navigate in Blender with alt + left click style navigation just by enabling a setting. I just wish we could still use alt click operations while in menus like Hard Ops or Machin3 tools pies.

I understand that alt + left mouse is reserved for navigation but shouldn't it be possible to detect when a menu is open?

Would appreciate this a lot, it's frustrating that the alt special functions are effectively hidden and can't be changed to anything else, it feels inconsistent given how much of Blender can be customised. Potential solutions:

  • Expose these alt functions in the keymap so they can be swapped to something else.
  • Make it so 3 button mouse is turned off when the cursor is on a menu/not in a viewport.

From experimenting - dragging a slider, or inputting text values can work if you're careful about when you press alt (only after you've engaged the field/adjustment so emulate 3 button mouse isn't interfering). Checkboxes don't work like this since they're on/off and you can't engage it before completing the toggle. The workaround for this is to toggle it and right click the checkbox > "copy to selected".
