Asset Browser: assets in multiple catalogs

It would be a great organizational feature in the Asset Browser if we could have the same asset in more than one category.

For example: if I have a model of a TV, I might want it in a "Furniture" category as well as an "Electronics" category.

This could be the case with child catalogs as well: I might want a catalog "Televisions" that is a subcategory of both "Furniture" and "Electronics" for all my TV models, so I just add them in once and it shows under both.

It seems like this should be straightforward, but if there is a way to do this already, I haven't found it.

Initially catalogs were designed so assets can live in multiple catalogs. But decision was to not do that, since it comes at the cost of quite some complexity. You have to be really careful to design a system like catalogs in a way that it feels intuitive and behaves as expected, and doesn't confuse users. Blender's object collection system, which does this, tends to be quite confusing for example - here we have the chance to do better.

But! Together with this decision, Dynamic Catalogs were introduced to the design, which are not yet implemented in the Asset Browser. These would basically be snapshots of filter settings, so you could always have a dynamic catalog that shows all assets with a certain set of tags, for example.

See code.blender.org/2021/06/asset-browser-workshop-outcomes/ .

it's possible to partially address this problem with tags

I use tags as a work around also.

@Shane The asset browser is still in it's infancy. I'm sure your suggestion is something that will be implemented in the future.

Oh, you can have multiple categories? I didn't expect that this feature was forgotton.
