fund.blender.org/

@ammusionist: Well there is an infrastructure in place and the idea isn't that bad but for specific features.

jason

Who would make this site and manage it? What's preventing you from launching it yourself?

@Jason van Gumster: I think it should be BF or at least someone known in Blender community world (one of devs, ppl form BlenderMarket/BA/BNation/BCloud), becaue he/she must be trustworthy. Because no one will send money to random internet guy, that might vanish with cash.

jason

@Pawel Piotrowski: Anyone can become known in the Blender community. You just have to do things that the community notices and respects.

Our community is built upon people who do things. That's the primary barrier to entry.

@Jason van Gumster: The question and the answer are pointless. If anybody creates such site it has to be BF.

jason

@roccoor: I completely disagree. There have been independent funding measures for specific features in the past and they were successful. This site itself isn't run by the Blender Foundation... neither are many other community sites. We are a community... not everything can or should come from the BF. Things happen because people do them. Be one of those people.

Stupid idea: I wonder if it would be better if Blender Institute would offer crowdfunding for certain features, instead? Say, users realy, really want a feature in Blender by default but it would require a fulltime developer for a longer period of time, working in the Institute. If there was to be a sort of Kickstarter/IndieGoGo crowdfunding campaign where people could direct amounts of money directly into a feature request.

@motionblur.of.doom: That might actually be a better solution.

roccoor

@motionblur.of.doom: And 5% or more goes to Kickstarter instead to a developer that would do something. Isn't BF a foundation after all?

Good luck my friend, I've already tried it not too long ago. There is a lot of pessimism or something like that in these proposals. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
