Include addons provided by community members in next releases

I suggest to include the addons provided by the community before in the next releases of Blender. This could be much easier and more productive than searching online for them. Since the addons were provided before by community members, it would be convenient for users to have them already in Blender.

For example, "match frame" addon in the sequencer is available, however, users should search for them to install them, therefore, if volunteers from the community already presented these useful addons before, why not including them in the next releases so all of them can be in one place inside the software. Then users can decide which ones to install.

Thanks!!

For clarification:

  • What do you mean by "include before"?
  • What is the problem you are trying to solve with your proposal?

If you want this for discoverability, then how is this any different from the current situation? Most people never check all the addons shipped with Blender. Proof: how often we see people not knowing about Node Wrangler even though it's present in any documentation about nodes nowadays.

What is the limit of community addons to add? Adding one or two addons is usually not a burden, but at the end of the day there are hundreds of them, if not thousands, that's potentially Gigabytes of additional data to add to Blender.
And users have very different needs, so most people will really only use a fraction of any addons you ship anyway.

Besides, who decides which addons gets into Blender, and who maintains them?

Getting an addon to be included with Blender is not as simple as just adding it to Blender's official distribution files. There is quite a strict list of "requirements" just for the addon itself, and the addon's developer also have duties to sign up for.
The very first requirement for any community addon to be shipped with Blender: it's all up to its developer.

More about it here: Process/Addons - Blender Developer Wiki

Many addons are incompatible with those criterias by design. And many addon developers just can't commit to doing everything necessary to have their addon included in Blender. I for example am neither experienced enough to engage my word on being able to maintain and constantly make sure any of my addons are running with every new Blender release, and I don; t have the time to do so either.
