To summarize, and with pictures so that people can see right away what you mean without having to watch a video:

What we have:

situation

  • unexpected default settings

    • Blend need to be at 0 to get the color we asked for
    • Location X and Y need to be changed to -1 to see the start of the gradient
  • unexpected options to begin with

    • What is Blend ? The tooltip isn't even meaningful:

blend tooltip It seems to actually be a Factor between the gradient and the first color as a solid. I'm unsure of why this is even a thing. But if it has to be, it could maybe be renamed to "Factor" so to be consistent with how constraint, modifiers and nodes are made, and the tooltip should definitely explain what is it the factor of.

    • Location coordinates seems to work differently depending on which direction you traced the shape:

trace difference That sounds like a very convoluted way of doing gradients. - Following the tracing orientation should be an option and OFF by default, so to have this result: Follow tracing orientation: OFF - There should be an option to have relative [0:1] coordinates and absolute [-∞:+∞] coordinates, and be relative by default

  • not enough control

    • Why not use the same UI as the Color Ramp node, which gives manual control over the amount of colors and position?

    Solution

I would suggest going even further by adding these:

gradient types
