Proposal: Duplicate with "N" number of Copies
Shift D to duplicate followed by multiple Shift-Rs is nice BUT.. would be so lovely to type in a number of copies with the same spacing, such as the following hack of Blender and 3DS MAX. A real-time preview of the potential output would be super nice, and an upgrade from 3DS MAX!

Wouldn't be Array modifier (or Dupli-Verts) more appropriate for these situations?
To be more consistent with other similar tools - Select object, [SHIFT]-D (or [ALT-D] of course) to duplicate, then scroll mouse wheel to increase number of iterative copies between the original and the end one dragged away.
I agree! And import / export could behave the same way as Max. (google translate, sorry)
