File open browser should be able to move files, no?

when opening source files, its often handy to be able to move or rename misplaced items. the file load browser should let you do this. especially handy when finding a texture in a folder where it's not supposed to be. no need to open a file browser when the file open has most of the browser features already...

Hey Bay

I would agree with you in the past. When Autodesk removed this feature in Maya I missed it.

But on reflection I dont think a 3d program should be able to manipulate file too much. Too easy to delete/lose stuff with a slip of a finger or the press of a wrong button.

Leave this to the OS's GUI

Let the Blender devs concentrate on the other stuff?

Fair point. Also by that logic, it would save even more resources to allow the users to use the OS file browser instead of the blender one altogether. (not my preference)

For what it's worth, you can already rename files by <kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+clicking them (and this feature has been available in pre-2.80 releases as well).

Moving however, does not currently work AFAIK.
