Snap to and from the Origin / Pivot-Point of an Object
Unfortunately you can't use the origin / pivot-point of an object as a base ("B") or target for snapping.
Two example-workflows:
- - - - - - - - - - - - -
- )
Ctrl + "." (for axis- / transform-origin-mode)
"g" (for transformation)
"b" (for base)
use origin / pivot-point as base
place origin / pivot-point on a vertex, edge, middle-point, face, etc.
- - - - - - - - - - - - -
2))
two standard objects: cube and cone (origin / pivot-point at the centre)
select cone
"g" (for transformation)
"b" (for base)
select tip of cone as base
place cone-tip on the origin / pivot-point of the cube (at centre)
- - - - - - - - - - - - -
That would be very useful.

There's a way to snap the cursor to the outer parts of objects, however, I do believe a shortcut key like in Shift + S should be added where it just moves the origin point without a need for the cursor, to the center of the area's of object faces as you suggest(or rather, as I parsed out from reading your suggestion, all be it, I kinda skimmed through it cause I am a bit lazy - altho actually, I don't blame anyone for skimming through my stuff personally, blame me as needed as yours is quite good and to the point). I have no talent whatsoever when it comes to coding this stuff tho ;_;
