Changes to the policy regarding community.

I haven’t been on this site very long, but I managed to get acquainted with how this system works, and it seems to me that it is not productive. The fact is that, as it seems to me, in 99% of cases, blender developers do not pay attention to community suggestions, even if they received significant (by the standards of this site) vote support. Someone will say: Blender has few developers, they are busy with more important things, etc. But then, what is the point of this site? Blenderer has always been positioned as an open source 3D software for people with a strong connection to the community. However, what I am seeing at the moment is different. Developers are busy with their own business - community theirs. Everything is separate. My proposal is that the blender takes upon itself the responsibility to review (I draw your attention to this, review, not take on the responsibility for implementation, but at least consider!) and give feedback. For example, provided that the proposal receives a certain number of votes (like a petition). This would strengthen the connection between developers and the community and would also have practical benefits because people themselves chose what was their priority in new blender updates.

I think they should introduce a bounty system.

  1. Someone suggests an idea on here or a new Blender.org/bounties website.
  2. Blender developers approve or decline the general idea to prevent people spending time working on something that won't be accepted for whatever reason.
  3. A realistic deadline is assigned to the proposal based on how long it would take to code if someone works on it for 3 hours per day, plus a month for the bounty to gain traction.
  4. People can then vote for the feature via a donation which is held by the Blender foundation.
  5. The bounty is awarded to whoever's implementation is accepted first by the Blender developers.

This would be a second source of revenue for the Blender foundation (if they implement the feature), and if not would entice more developers who aren't employed directly by Blender to get involved.

Your suggestion makes sense too :)

I am pretty sure they already do review the suggestions that get upvoted by the community. Are you suggesting they review everything on here ?

As Blender's comminty groes so does the number of requests. Many people learning Blender suggest improvements and get upvotes for things that already exist in Blender, they just haven't taken the time to learn it. Alternatively you get many people familiar with another software and just expect Blender to work the same then come on here suggesting to developers they just make it work like the other thing. These are the kinds of suggestions which cause developers to take longer to get to the actually useful suggestions. Not to mention as you say they already have massive backlogs of improvements and bug fixes already in progress.

The best way to offer valuable suggestions is first to understand what Blender is and how it works. Also being patient after making a suggestion while the team does their work. You're getting an industry rivaling 3D/2D package for free and it gets updated regularly and faster than any other software out today.

Chances are, whatever your project, you can already do what you need in Blender.
