FPS counter for viewport

Blender would benefit from having an application wide fps counter. When you are in the viewport doing things it would be beneficial to see how fast your viewport is running at for diagnostic and performance purposes. There may be an FPS counter during animation routines but not whenever you are at the view-port at any given time. ...If your scene has a high-poly count, there might be a point whre you will start to slow down and that's where you would want the counter showing how fast you are running at before and after you would upgrade the hardware configuration you have to improve the viewport performance. It is also useful to see when you upgrade your hardware to see if it actually had an effect in the performance or when you have several applications running and you may want to see if terminating them actually helps the performance in the viewport.

I could really use this feature, I have so many settings in so many places and no idea what the FPS will give in VR, I just have to look and estimate.

Surprised this isnt already possible. Like you said its really important for seeing performance issues
