A Solidify Modifier with More Controls

Non destructive modelling is obviously very important. For any model and project, the more you can preserve the fundamental building blocks and all the generative layers on top, the faster you will be able to implement changes and reach your goal. On the other hand, a highly deterministic result or to say it differently, a collapsed state, will almost always require you to start from scratch.

I find that the Solidify Modifier lacks the amount of control that would enable me to preserve a more fundamental state of my origin model.

It would be very useful to be able to control the crease on each individual newly generated edge on the rim, and also on the newly generated offset geometry.

It would be possible for example, if the newly generated rim edges would inherit the originating vertex Bevel Weight as Edge Crease and Edge Bevel Weight. It would be a huge time saver to skip step two of the attached image, as it seems only one step, but the resulting extra work is exponential.

Thank you for reading, please let me know if somthing is unclear, or I might be missing something obvious.

The shown scenario is already possible. Just switch to Complex Solidify. Edges that are not part of the rim will crease the Rim. This behavior is there to match the subsurface modifier. {attachment Screenshotpng}
