Grease pencil view lock
While Grease Pencil is great, the viewport controls most suited for drawing are not the same as those best suited for 3d editing. While cameras and transform locks can be achieved to get something vaguely usable, this is awkward, slow and non-obvious.
We need a viewport lock option designed for drawing that would be quick and easy to use and do several things at once:
- Lock the direction the camera is facing so that all GP drawings come out flat. Right now it's too easy to nudge the viewport out of alignment by accident.
- Alter the navigation controls so that camera rotation (orbit) instead rolls the camera around the initial cursor position, so that it behaves more like the canvas rotation in 2d painting software
- Save the camera vector so you can always easily return to a given view
Additionally, an icon for the 3d view header and a menu in the n-panel to return to saved views and delete them as needed, would have to be created.

There's a small addon by "author": "Jason van Gumster (Fweeb)" called Lock View that adds a checkbox to the view panel - works in Blender 3.5, haven't tested it in others. Literally just locks orbitting but allows panning and zooming, would be nice to have it properly integrated so it could be enabled by default in 2D workspaces tho....
I found it, but it didn't work for me on 3.5. :/ For 3.4 version I copy/paste some other code, which I found somewhere (made by nickname ElLocoCocoLoco) And it was very short code, and wonder why this isn't there by default. It should be, especially when doing 2D!
ah that's a shame - for me I just downloaded lockview.py off github (there's a few different versions by different authors) and installed it the usual way on 3.5.0 windows, it shows up in the view menu. But yeah, think this would be a useful feature for 2D, it's so annoying when you accidentally move the camera!
being able to roll the camera instead of orbit would be great tho

Thanks, looks like I found similar somewhere else, which works. And that should definitely as default in Blender! Such a small but powerfull little code! <3
Yes! That feature should be while doing 2D animation / drawing. Because it's so easy to go off camera when drawing and press ALT, and it's annoying.
Locking just going off view camera, but panning and rotation still would work.
I found on code by kind nickname ElLocoCocoLoco in one Blender conversation, which worked, but can't paste the website address. here :/
Still wondering, why this isn't as default? Not in v4 beta, it could be view, where is lock-things, but not total lock that prevent moving on 3D, so it would rotate just in Z-axis, like rotating paper.
Would also like to know if there's an improvement or if anyone has discovered an easier workaround :)
Hi Piotr! Do you know if this feature has been added yet? Any updates ?
